The Kelmarsh Trust is responsible for the management of the historic Kelmarsh Hall, an 18th century Grade 1 listed property, set in iconic Grade 2* listed Gardens at the centre of a traditional working Estate of 3500 acres. As well as farming, forestry, and residential property, the Estate encompasses an increasing array of commercial, leisure and hospitality interests, with new enterprises being developed as part of its strategy to deliver economic, social and environmental value to the local and wider communities.

Established in 1982 by the last member of the Lancaster family to reside in the Hall, the Kelmarsh Trust is a forward-looking charitable trust that puts conservation, sustainability, innovation, public access, and education at its core.

The position

Reporting to the Chair of Trustees, a unique opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and ambitious Estate Director to take responsibility for the leadership of the management team, the day-to-day running of the Estate, including the visitor experience and the events business. You will also work with the Trustees to develop the Trust’s strategic aims and objectives, optimising new revenue opportunities whilst maintaining its core values.

An important responsibility will be generating strong and productive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including professional advisers, government and local communities, always acting as a key ambassador for the Trust.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally be MRICS qualified with a proven track record in the management of rural estates with commercial activities, and experience in generating new opportunities. He/she will be commercially and financially astute and motivated by the environment and social impact of their role. Strong leadership qualities, with a friendly and outgoing personality and confidence in conversing with a range of people are important, as well as being organised and businesslike with good attention to detail.
