World's biggest bird feeder on Game Conservancy Trust farm

Whole industry approach must work to deliver Campaign for the Farmed Environment

Farming and conservation groups will today (Thursday November 5) join forces with the Government in a groundbreaking agreement to help farmers and land managers protect and enhance the nation's countryside.

The Campaign for the Farmed Environment (CFE) aims to retain the environmental benefits formerly provided by set-aside under the Single Payment Scheme (SPS) in three key areas - resource protection, farmland birds and farm wildlife. The industry led voluntary approach, which was given backing from Government in July, is seen as the most viable alternative to retaining the environmental benefits that were provided by set aside. Welsh Rural Affairs Minister issues statement on Badger Trust appeal

Elin Jones, Welsh Rural Affairs Minister, has issued a statement following the Badger Trust being granted leave to appeal the Judicial Review decision that the badger cull to take place in West Wales is lawful. Welsh Minister welcomes improved bovine TB statistics

The recently published monthly TB stats have shown a decrease in the number of cattle slaughtered relating to bovine TB in 2010 with 6,587 slaughtered in the period January to October 2010 compared with 9,146 during the same period in 2009. Wales' Rural Affairs Minister has welcomed this improvement and further information is available on the Welsh Assembly Government website.

Welsh Government Ministerial CAP Reform Direct Payments Consultation - Q & A Meeting - 26th September POSTPONED

The Ministerial CAP Reform Q & A meeting on the Welsh Direct Payments consultation that was arranged for the evening of 26th September at the Glen Yr Afon House Hotel in Usk has had to be POSTPONED as the Minister for Natural Resources and Food will now be unavailable. The meeting will now take place on Thursday 24th October at the same venue at 7.30 p.m.

Welsh Assembly pushing for a change to fallen stock rules

The Welsh Assembly Government has submitted an amendment to EU rules which prevent on farm burial of stock so that on farm containment would be permitted prior to disposal. It however seems that Wales has not received any support for such a derogation despite strong negotiations with the European Commission. Welsh Assembly Ministers support TB Eradication Order

Welsh Assembly Ministers have voted (49-9) to support the TB Eradication (Wales) Order 2009 last week. Further information is available on the Welsh Assembly website. It is understood that the Badger Trust has sent a letter to the Welsh Assembly Government as part of the Judicial Review Pre Action Protocol which asks for a response by 19th November 2009.
