About the role

We have an exciting role available in our South West Regional team for a County Adviser responsible for managing the work of Group Secretaries within the Wiltshire area will report to you. Working with and for our farming members, stakeholder engagement and lobbying activities will also be key responsibilities.

About you

You will be educated to degree level, have an in depth knowledge of agricultural and rural policy issues and management experience.

With excellent communication skills to communicate at all levels and interact effectively with our members, all stakeholders in person and through the media, you will also have budget management experience and the ability to work with some flexibility including the odd evening and weekend.

As County Adviser you will be coordinating all NFU activity within your area. You will work with elected office holders and the regional team and be a key local source of knowledge and able to offer advice and guidance on matters of policy and NFU membership. You will be able to network effectively, bringing individuals together to energise lobbying campaigns and promote NFU causes.  You will also support the work of one of the NFU boards or forums to ensure that sector views from across the area are fed into national policy.

Most importantly, you will be able to establish a firm connection with the local membership, and ensure their views are heard. To make that member connection, you will have an in-depth knowledge of current farming issues and a real passion for agriculture, whether gained through your education, your background or your experience. Knowledge of the local area and its agricultural/land-based industry landscape would be ideal.

Reporting to the Regional Director, you will manage a team of Group Secretaries, who promote the NFU and its services at a local level. Experience of managing a team is therefore a requirement.
