Berrys is a leading firm of chartered surveyors, chartered town planners, property and business consultants. It has five offices in the UK in Shropshire, Northamptonshire, Herefordshire and Cheshire.  The firm has a strong reputation both locally and regionally for providing high quality professional advice.

Berrys is seeking an RICS qualified rural surveyor to join their Shrewsbury office and to take on a varied role with a wide range of professional work.

Role Summary

  • Areas of professional work will include providing professional advice to both landlords and tenants and estate management
  • Valuations of a broad range of properties; these will largely be related to the rural environment (e.g. farms and equestrian) but may include residential and commercial elements.  Principally these will be for banks and other lending institutions.
  • Assisting in sales and lettings of property, largely rural and village in type.
  • Compensation claims, grants and subsides and joint ventures.
  • Identifying new business opportunities and promoting the brand throughout the region.
  • Attending internal meetings and also meetings with clients.
  • Fee earning – maximise fee income whilst retaining job profitability.
  • Supporting delivery of the business plan including delivery of agreed targets.
  • Managing and developing client relationships (new and existing)
  • Assisting in the delivery of agreed financial targets and being responsible for managing own performance whilst exceeding in core technical skills.
  • Liaising with contractors, clients and colleagues.

Attributes required

  • RICS qualification
  • Proven track record within similar firms
  • A practical understanding of property, land, business and agriculture
  • Ability and confidence in dealing with clients in a professional manner
  • Strong IT capability
  • Ability to work in a team and independently and use initiative
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Own transport with insurance for business


The role sits within a friendly and supportive team.

  • Salary: Competitive salary, dependent upon experience, plus participation in Berrys discretionary Performance Related Profit Sharing scheme.  
  • Training: All necessary training will be provided
  • Healthcare Scheme: Inclusion in health cashplan after one year’s service. Optional voluntary Private Healthcare Scheme on a contributory basis.  
  • Holiday:  Entitlement of 20 days per annum plus 3 to be taken between Christmas and New Year, and the Public/Bank holiday entitlement of 8 days per year, plus an extra day off on your birthday.   An additional day accrues for every 5 years of service.
  • Pension Scheme: Workplace pension scheme operated through NEST
